T-Mobile Android Pulse phone
Just received a new T-Mobile Android Pulse phone for a cost of £91 plus £10 Top Up Sim. By using Topcashback hopefully this will reduce by a further £15
The phone uses Google Android which is Googles new "open" operating system for Mobiles.
The Pulse is comparable to the iphone both in size and facilities and less than a quarter of the iphone price !!!
Wi-fi with wpa encryption configuration was easy and meant that I did not have to use mobile internet.
The first app (application) that I wanted was SIP so I headed over to http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/downloads/list using the phones built in browser. All that was needed was to download the app and Android recognised what it was and after some warning messages sipdroid was installed :)
Setting up Sipdroid with an Asterisk server was simple, just the usual details were required i.e. account (sip extension), password and domain.
When sipdroid is configured, Android will ask if you wish to allow sipdroid to intercept calls - this means that your calls will be made over sip / wi-fi rather than the more expensive mobile network.
In a matter of minutes, I now have a really good mobile phone which when brought home automatically detects my wi-fi and logs in via sip as an extension phone.
Just to give you a flavour of how this phone can be tailored to the way you like, I have uploaded a few pics. These are different screens, which you configure. To access the different screens you just need to 'stroke'.

Yes you can use the BBC Iplayer Plus YouTube. Standard installed functions include camera, and Gallery. The Battery is a widget and as well as showing the battery state, it also allows you to turn on and off certain 'power' functions. |

The Clock and weather are a widget from 'Beautiful Widgets' this is not a free app and costs about £1. By clicking on the weather, you get a full animated display of the expected forecast. If you click on the time you are taken to the Alarm clock, and clicking on the date takes you to your appointments. Beautiful widgets also comes with a number of choices once again allowing you to enable and disable hardware. |

Android automatically synchronises with Google Calendar and through free widgets you can add this to a screen. This calendar also automatically updates the website diary showing when I am busy. |
